The Real Estate Congress 2018 was again a success, with digital, disruption and digital transition as important themes. Fast Forward was the slogan of the event and the CIB wants to indicate that every real estate entrepreneur must participate in the digital story. The CIB even goes one step further by making innovative tools available to their members such as RealSmart. Real-estate agents can use this means to digitize and automate their preparations with RealSmart for every file.

The real estate agent is now clearly informed! The disruption in the market is coming. The question is when and how does the market respond to this? The real estate agents look at each other too much, while technology players are not (or will not) actively enter the market with digital disruptive solutions. The answer is now starting! How are we going to digitize more, become more disruptive and digitally transform.

In the real estate sector, many technologies can be used to distinguish themselves in the market. Concrete examples were discussed such as WhatsApp, Live Chat, Chatbots, Virtual assistants to speed up communication with customers. Certainly the millennials are impatient and want to respond immediately via their smartphone. Virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality also offer added value and the use of drones to professionally capture photos and videos inside and outside.

Technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain are high on the agenda and the impact of this is still unclear to many. We want to state that we should not overestimate these technologies in terms of what they can do in the short term (1-2 years), but also not underestimate what they can do in the medium term (3-5 years). A great challenge for the CIB to unite real estate agents even more and better and to see disruption and digital transition as an opportunity instead of a threat.
